Even on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/best-companies-for-work-life-balance-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"this list (opens in a new tab)\">this list<\/a> of the top companies to work for, one in five said they\u2019re still unsatisfied. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is a positive work\/life balance achievable? Thought leaders such as Arianna Huffington would argue not and that we should instead strive to achieve a positive work\/life integration, whilst organizational psychologist Adam Grant proposes aiming for a work\/life rhythm: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<center><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Work-life balance sets an unrealistic expectation of keeping different roles in steady equilibrium.<br><br>Instead, strive for work-life rhythm. By implementing different time-off and flexible working policies, promoting healthy messages and creating environments where staff don\u2019t leave the workplace feeling stressed and drained, they\u2019re starting to see that both employees and the overall business are benefiting.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the 10 companies we\u2019ve taken a closer look at: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"#Etsy\">Etsy<\/a> <\/li><li><a href=\"#Zoom\">Zoom<\/a> <\/li><li><a href=\"#Starbucks\">Starbucks <\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Target\">Target<\/a> <\/li><li><a href=\"#Taylor-Wimpey\">Taylor Wimpey <\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Keller-Williams-Realty\">Keller Williams Realty <\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Intuit\">Intuit <\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Boostability\">Boostability <\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Slack\">Slack<\/a> <\/li><li><a href=\"#Ryan\">Ryan, LLC <\/a><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Etsy\">Etsy <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Etsy is well known for being a great place to work with a big focus on diversity, inclusion, team culture and creating spaces which \u2018keep commerce human\u2019.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This ethos transpires in the reviews the company gets from employees when it comes to offering a positive work\/life balance too. Last year they were included in Glassdoor\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.com\/blog\/work-life-balance-companies-012019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"list of companies (opens in a new tab)\">list of companies<\/a> who show that helping employees find a harmony between work life and home life is more than a recruiting buzzword \u2013 they actually deliver the goods. The company ranks at 3.9\/5 for work\/life balance, second only to its compensation and benefits, with one employee noting that managers \u2018take the stance that working 24\/7 doesn\u2019t improve your performance at all\u2019.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"A review (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/etsy\/work-life-balance\" target=\"_blank\">A review<\/a> specifically looking at the work\/life balance at the company on Comparably ranks the firm as being in the top 35% of similarly sized organizations in the US.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a little window into what working at the company is like (including many office dogs) and its \u2018anti-corporate\u2019 culture: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<style>.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }<\/style><div class=\"embed-container\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3M3ObYgJGfw\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Etsy has even proved beneficial to the work\/life balance of its customers, with many sellers on the platform choosing to create the working life they want by selling their antiques and handmade items full time.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Zoom\">Zoom <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Video conferencing company Zoom made the same Glassdoor list as Etsy, achieving an impressive work\/life balance rating of 4.7\/5. The company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.co.uk\/Overview\/Working-at-Zoom-Video-Communications-EI_IE924644.11,36.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"ranks highly (opens in a new tab)\">ranks highly<\/a> across all measures, including its culture and values, with nine in 10 saying they would recommend the company to a friend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company\u2019s motto of delivering happiness doesn\u2019t just apply to its customers \u2013 it holds true for their employees too with a generous time off policy, buddy-up new-hire initiative and happiness events. Coffee giants Starbucks have been bucking the trend in the hospitality industry by proving it\u2019s possible to offer jobs that achieve a positive harmony between work and life, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cateringtoday.co.uk\/news\/people\/hospitality-among-worst-industries-for-work-life-balance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"despite the sector (opens in a new tab)\">despite the sector<\/a> being ranked as one of the worst industries for achieving that balance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Comparably scores Starbucks in the top 5% of similar-sized US firms for work\/life balance as well as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"ranking well (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/starbucks\/work-life-balance\" target=\"_blank\">ranking well<\/a> for happiness and overall culture, picking up awards for culture, professional development, best company for women and of course, work\/life balance too \u2013 all reflecting the company\u2019s mission to \u2018inspire and nurture the human spirit, one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Target\">Target <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another retail giant proving that work\/life balance can be achieved in a fast-paced, shift-based environment across thousands of employees and hundreds of locations is Target. And we\u2019re not just talking about their corporate offices.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One part-time store worker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quora.com\/Do-employees-at-Target-have-a-good-work-life-balance-Does-this-differ-across-positions-and-departments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"commented that (opens in a new tab)\">commented that<\/a> management was very flexible with scheduling, time off and desired hours, whilst a \u2018swap shift\u2019 board for the weekly schedule makes it easy for staff to take a day if something last minute comes up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The careers website states that the company is dedicated to enhancing wellbeing of both employees and their families and include a range of vacation, personal days, wellbeing time and family leave options for staff.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, Target ranks in the top 10% of similarly sized US companies for its work\/life balance offering and achieves positive happiness and culture scores.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Taylor-Wimpey\">Taylor Wimpey <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The property sector isn\u2019t without its work\/life winners either. UK-based housebuilder Taylor Wimpey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.co.uk\/blog\/work-life-balance-best-place-to-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"has been ranked (opens in a new tab)\">has been ranked<\/a> as one of the best UK companies to work for due to its work\/life balance offering and was also noted as one of the top places to work in 2018 and this year too, with one employee commenting that \u2018work\/life balance is in healthy equilibrium and a senior leadership team who lead the way\u2019.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firm offers flexible hours, family-friendly policies, opportunities to purchase additional holiday days and even time off for charity work to its employees, offering a range of additional benefits including a \u2018dress for the day\u2019 environment and an annual team charity event.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Keller-Williams-Realty\">Keller Williams Realty <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the US, property firm Keller Williams Realty has also been topping the work\/life balance charts, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/05\/01\/the-15-best-companies-for-work-life-balance-in-2018.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"ranking as Indeed\u2019s (opens in a new tab)\">ranking as Indeed\u2019s<\/a> number one company in 2018 for offering employees a harmony between home and work life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;If you\u2019re working remotely or at our buzzing HQ in Austin, Texas, we\u2019ll give you what you need to enjoy a fulfilling career and the life you deserve.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, co-founder Keller Williams notes the importance of people within the organization, and how he wants every employee to be incredibly successful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<style>.embed-container { position: relative; }<\/style><div class=\"embed-container\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9ZcJZlbtgj8?start=117\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company manages to maintain a culture of balance through almost 140,000 employees with a business model that emphasizes profit sharing and allows for flexible work schedules, on-top of paid parental leave, generous paid time off and continuing professional development opportunities too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Boostability\">Boostability <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marketing agency Boostability proudly display their numerous employer awards on their careers page, boasting nods for leadership, best CEOs for women and of course, work\/life balance.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ranking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/boostability\/work-life-balance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"in the top 10% (opens in a new tab)\">in the top 10%<\/a> of similarly sized US firms, employees can acquire up to 21 days off a year, as well as benefiting from the company\u2019s Boostlife wellness program on top of other benefits including company parties and retreats.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With many employees noting great friendships with their colleagues and a culture that celebrates individuality, the firm <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"ranks in the top 10% (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/boostability\/work-life-balance\" target=\"_blank\">ranks in the top 10%<\/a> of similar-sized companies in the US with 88% of employees reporting they\u2019re satisfied with their work\/life balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Intuit\">Intuit <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Intuit, the software company behind QuickBooks and TurboTax, came second in Comparably\u2019s 2018 work\/life balance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/best-companies-for-work-life-balance-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"awards (opens in a new tab)\">awards<\/a> (behind Starbucks) and standards haven\u2019t dropped since with strong Glassdoor ratings to this day and a great 4.4\/5 overall score.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flexible schedules are one of the reasons behind the company\u2019s high work\/life balance ratings with over 800 employee reviews <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.co.uk\/Reviews\/Intuit-work-life-balance-Reviews-EI_IE2293.0,6_KH7,24.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"citing a positive harmony (opens in a new tab)\">citing a positive harmony<\/a> between work and home life as a positive factor of their employment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firm offers a number of time-off options from general holidays to disability and travel options, as well as a range of schemes designed to support physical, emotional and financial wellbeing.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An initiative called We Care &amp; Give Back grabs attention too, offering employees up to five paid days off a year to volunteer in the community, reflecting one of the company\u2019s core values:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<style>.embed-container { position: relative; The messaging platform decided to forgo the rock climbing walls and on-site fitness suites for a very good reason \u2013 they want their employees to go home when they\u2019ve finished their work.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Work hard and go home&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It may sound a somewhat cold message to send to employees, but the company understands that working all the hours under the sun doesn\u2019t benefit anyone, especially their staff. As <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"this LinkedIn article (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/business.linkedin.com\/talent-solutions\/blog\/hr\/2018\/these-companies-made-work-life-balance-more-than-a-buzzword\" target=\"_blank\">this LinkedIn article<\/a> attests too, the policy does seem to be working, with HQ pretty much a ghost town by 6:30 pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Ryan\">Ryan, LLC <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tax services firm Ryan, LLC used to have a working culture that no one would have considered work\/life balance friendly.
